O-I CAMPAIGN RAISES MORE THAN $765,000 FOR UNITED WAY
PERRYSBURG, Ohio (February 23, 2013) - Owens-Illinois Inc. (NYSE: OI) today announced the successful completion of its campaign to support the United Way of Greater Toledo, raising funds and securing volunteer hour pledges to support the community. Pledges from employees and retirees were matched by O-I, bringing the total amount pledged to more than $765,000. These critical funds will support United Way's volunteer agencies and health and human service providers throughout Lucas, Wood and Ottawa counties.
"O-I continues to be a leader in this community in many ways," said Chairman and CEO Al Stroucken. "More than 500 employees or more than 60 percent of Ohio-based O-I employees participated in this year's campaign, contributing dollars and pledging hours to help our neighbors. Our partnership with United Way is a reflection of our company culture and is an important part of our tradition of giving."
Since 2008, O-I has led the northwest Ohio business community in volunteer hours dedicated to United Way organizations. In 2012, O-I employees volunteered more than 2,500 hours by the end of the year. More than 600 employees, including our senior leadership team, volunteered in the community at Scott High School, Toledo Grows, Toledo Food Bank and East Toledo Family Center, to name a few.
"We are very appreciative of the leadership role that O-I has played in the community over the past several years," said Karen Mathison, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Toledo. "The financial support and volunteer hours from their employees has changed so many lives.
